Manuel Alvarinho was graduated in Civil Engineering by Eduardo Mondlane University, Maputo, in 1978. He has developed his professional activity in water and sanitation for the last 33 years. He has held various leadership positions in the Public Administration of Mozambique. Manuel Carrilho Alvarinho was actively involved in the design of the new framework of water policy and water reforms carried out in the second half of the 1990s. He was also responsible for coordinating the preparation of the MDGs in Mozambique, for the water and sanitation sector in 2006. Presently, he is the Chairman of the Council for Regulation of Water Supply, in Mozambique. Since 2003, he is member of the Building Partnership for Development in Water and Sanitation and, since 2004, he is member of the Water and Sanitation Program Directorate. Since 2007, he is member of the Board of the Research Program Eco-San 2 of the Stockholm Environment Institute.
