Miguel Castro has a degree in Electrical Engineering from the José Antonio Echeverría Polytechnic Institute from Havana, Cuba since 1981. He got a PhD Degree in Technical Sciences in 1995 from the same Institute. He is currently Full Professor and Full Researcher at the Research Centre for Electrical Testing at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in the same Institute. He was awarded the National Prize from the Cuban Academy of Sciences in 1993 and from the National Forum for Science and Technology in 1994. His research work includes electrical insulation and safety, risk evaluation, electromagnetic fields and distributed generation. He is also Secretary of the Scientific Council at the José Antonio Echeverría Polytechnic Institute and Associate Editor of the Energy and Computation Journal from the Universidad del Valle and the Science Journal from the National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico. He was member of the consulting committee of the Ministry of Basic Industry from Cuba for 12 years. He was Head of Department, Head of Research Centre, Vice-Dean, and Director of the Training Centre from the Cuban national Utility. He is national coordinator of the Distributed Generation network and coordinator of the international committee on electrical insulation.
